05/12/07 - Conservative Action On Highworth Town Council

Following their election in 2003, the Highworth Conservative Group have actioned and confirmed the following:

•Retained the Town Council Rate Charge within the rate of inflation during the past four years.

•Approved the increase of the Towns Councils pledge to the Rec Swimming Pool Project, from £50,000 to £150,000.

•Installed improved 'litter bins' in the Town Centre, in keeping with the Town architecture.

•Continued with the policy to provide 'Dog bins' throughout the Town.

•Improved the floral arrangements in the Town Centre, throughout the year.

•Improved the cricket and football changing room facilities.

•Renovated and enlarged the equipment storage sheds in the recreation ground.

•Approved a scheme to improve tourist awareness of our historic town, with installation during 2007.

•Introduced CCTV in the Town Square and Council Offices to monitor anti-social behaviour.

•Approved improved lighting of the High Street and Market Square.

•Approved funds to up-grade and improve all children's play areas during 2007.

•Approved further grants to the Youth Service in Highworth, during years 2007 and 2008, to assist 10-13 year old children to enter the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

•Examined all Planning Applications to ensure Highworth is not over developed.

•Supported the 'Highworth Community Planning Group' (a non Town Council

group) to obtain funds to finance initiatives for the improvements within Highworth Town.

•Approved the scheme to allow the Highworth Market to operate in the High Street on specified occasions.

•Changed the Town Council procedure to allow all councillors to be members of all committees.
